Transition Team Update
The pastoral transition team is working to clearly identify who Our Father’s Lutheran Church is. This description of Our Father’s will help us understand what we need in a pastor, and this description will help prospective pastors know if our church matches their strengths and interests. As you have been hearing, we are working on defining three parts of our identity:
Values: What are our core values that make us who we are? What values are central to our identity and our community?
Mission: What is God calling us to do?
Vision: How do we use our gifts and values to carry out the mission God has for us?
The transition team held two listening sessions on June 28 and July 12. These sessions focused on understanding our values. We want to thank everyone who came to share their experience and perspectives of who Our Father’s is to them. The transition team gathered all of these inputs and is now shaping these ideas into a core set of values that we all share. Once we complete our summary of these core values, we will share this summary to make sure the values fit who Our Father’s Lutheran Church is.
Please keep the work of the pastoral transition team in your prayers. If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the members of the team.
Thank you from the transition team,
Diane Dorrel, Kelly Miller, Brian Walton, Amy Jacobson, Dan Reed, and Pastor Dana

The Transition Team invites everyone to join us after worship on Sunday, July 12 for table conversations to understand our congregational values.  The Transition Team will meet soon thereafter to discuss all that we learned from this session. Hope to see you there!

We are deep into the construction season for Minnesota highways. On a Tuesday afternoon, I was stopped in the single open lane on Highway 12 near 494 and realized that I would not get to the airport before my daughter’s flight arrived. When will this road ever be done? Does anyone even know why they need to dig up the roads that seemed to be working just fine?
Just as highway construction needs a solid plan to move forward, our church needs a solid plan to move forward through the pastoral transition process. The transition team is continuing to work closely with Pastor Dana to help Our Father’s Lutheran Church understand who we are and where God is leading us. The three pieces we are working towards are:
  • Values - Understanding our core values that make us who we are. What do we believe and hold onto that are central to our identity and our community?
  • Mission - What is God calling us to do?
  • Vision – What does it look like to compete the mission? How would we be different?
We are focusing on identifying the core values of OFLC. Last Sunday, June 28, after the worship service, the transition team had our first listening session with the congregation. We worked together in groups to identify what we see as the core values of Our Father’s Church. The general themes that were raised were:
  • Community involvement and service. We value being a part of the Rockford area community and helping others in need.
  • Welcoming. We work to make sure anyone who joins us feels welcome and invited to be part of our community.
  • A multi-generational community that supports children and families. We create a place for children to feel safe and also support the needs of those in our church community.
We will have a second listening session on Sunday, July 12, after worship to continue the conversation of our shared values. We hope those who were not able to attend June 28 will be able to come and share your ideas. Anyone who did attend the first session is invited to continue the conversation.

Thank you from the transition team,
Kelly Miller, Brian Walton, Amy Jacobson, Diane Dorrel, Dan Reed, and Pastor Dana
