Music

Our Father's has a goal to provide quality music using a variety of styles.  We hope you will find the music touches your heart while giving glory to God.  At Our Father's, everyone has the opportunity to share their musical gifts through one or more of our music activities which are listed below.

We have several musical groups that lead us in our shared ministry of worshipping and praising the God. If you enjoy music and want to get involved, you are welcome to participate in any number of opportunities for fellowship and service!

Sunshine Singers

The children are taught through demonstration and repetition, with many of the songs including hand and body movements. 

  • Type of Choir: Children's Vocal
  • Age:  Kindergarten through 4th grade
  • Practice: Wednesday evenings 6:30-7, September-December
  • Service Participation: approximately once per month, alternating between the 8:15 service and the 10:45 service.  Generally during the Christmas Eve (early service) and during the Lenten season.

Worship Warriors

They sing a variety of traditional and contemporary choral numbers from sheet music. 

  • Type of Choir: Children's Vocal
  • Age:  5th -  8th grade
  • Practice: Wednesday evenings 6:30-7, September-May
  • Service Participation: approximately once per month, alternating between the 8:15 service and the 10:45 service.  Generally during the Christmas Eve (early service) and during the Lenten season

Senior Choir

Four-part music is sung, with varying levels of challenge and a mix of traditional and modern pieces.  They are accompanied with a mix of piano, organ, electric piano, harp, brass, violin and Hand Bells.

  • Type of Choir: Adult Vocal
  • Age:  Post Confirmation youth through adults
  • Practice: Wednesday evenings 7:05 - 8:00, September-May
  • Service Participation:  two services per month, additional participation during the Lenten and Easter Season and Christmas services including a Christmas Cantata. 

Higher Ground

This is a small group of experienced singers who sing contemporary arrangements for Our Father's alternative worship service.  They are accompanied by electric piano, bass guitar, rhythm guitar and drums.  This group is by invitation only.

  • Type of Choir: Adult Vocal
  • Age:  Post Confirmation youth through adults
  • Practice: Wednesday evenings 8:15 - 9:15, throughout the year
  • Service Participation:  twice per month at the 10:45 service 

 

Ringers of Light (Bell Choir)

Each choir member is responsible for two to four bells, so each person's commitment to consistent participation is critical.  If you've never rung bells before, you can learn!

  • Type of Choir: Adult Instrumental
  • Age:  Post Confirmation youth through adults
  • Practice: Wednesday evenings 6:00 - 7:00, September-May
  • Service Participation: generally one Sunday per month for two services, additional participation during the Lenten and Easter Season and Christmas services including a Christmas Cantata.

Other Opportunities

There are a variety of additional ways to serve with the gift of music depending on your area of expertise.  Examples include:

  • Youth choir accompanist  (piano, guitar, drums)
  • Youth choir director
  • Special music - instrumental or vocal
  • Brass accompaniment
  • Cantor or Liturgical Leader

Music is an important part of worship at Our Father's Lutheran Church.  Along with the opportunity for participation comes the obligation for commitment.  Of course, you can always give choir a try before committing!
